Journey To The Orient(China and Hong Kong) 2007 the larger pictures are in the following link http://photo.xanga.com/Dragon25Mark/7495a113831969/photo.html?album=a430c22c363e36&n=100 After being in the plane for almost 23hrs, we finally arrived at Hong Kong. Our journey did not end there, we went on a bus ride for another 6 hours to my place of birth(Mei Xian). Above is the first picture I took in Kowloon. Those store signs gave me a tremendous headache when i looked at it.
Since last time I visited my birth city, there were 4 times more cars on the streets. In the picture, I'm enjoying one of my childhood favorites with my dad in the public park, chewing sugar cane. yummy but it might break your teeth, bring back good memories though.
March is usually cloudy and rainy in the south east region of China. We didn't see sun light for about 75% of the time.
Chinese food is the best over there! I ate so much, I even gained 5 lbs(2-3Kg). That's fried taro and other vegatables.
I think that's chicken over some vegatables.
Soup of the day: Stuffed tofu with some chinese vegatable.
This is the famous Hakka dish, Stuffed Tofu.
On our way to the Buddhist Pagoda(Thousand Buddha Pagoda).
That day was when we actually saw sun light.
Those spinning things used by the monks. I never knew what those were used for?
I climbed the whole mountain just to see this.
The yellow rooftop of the monastery.
I swear to you that I am not pointing at my crotch, it was an unintentional gesture/pose.
Another famous Hakka dish: Mixed noodle w/ scallions and garlic, it may look like another noodle dish to you, but i can guarantee that is the best mixed noodle dish. Ummm.. So good!
Second childhood favorite: Eating rice noodle soup with meatballs, it was soo... good, but not how I remembered it. My memory recalled there were suppose to have scallions when I went with my grandmom.
Third childhood favorite: Grass jelly with sugar or honey, ummm.. i want some now!!
Forth childhood favorite: Movie theatre, where I used to go see movies. As you can see, it has been closed for some time.
Sister and Pop in front of the "Mei Xian People's Grand Stadium."
Behind us is the road to the city.
Nine Dragon Heads behind us.
The zodiac restaurant district
I didn't do much being back with my parents. All I did was eat and sleep. At least I spent some quality time with the whole family together. Not doing anything really slowed down the time, it felt like I was there for a year. I think New York City's fast-pace life style has some effect to that.
Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. Hong Kong skyline is spectacular!!
I finally rode on one of those double-decker bus. There's even TV onboard the bus, why doesn't NYC buses have that?!
We ate some of the best cantonese food in Hong Kong. I didn't take too many food pictures because it was just so good. That is a green bean dish.
I am holding the best Mango Jelly drink. It is better than the Taiwanese version of bubble tea.
Near the Star Ferry Station/Harbour City Mall
I finally got a glimpse of that Chinese Sail Boat.
Skyline view at night is even more magnificent! My camera isn't good enough to take night pictures.
Look, my bank is here too!

The close up view of "Bank of China" tower.
I don't know what this building is but it's new. That's where you get your Mango Jelly drinks. I had to take one for you Cantonese people.
On board Star Ferry, where you will get the best view of the skyline.
We went on to the Victoria Peak, where I happened to found a wax figure of Bruce Lee.
On board a boat to the famous "Floating Seafood Restaurant."
There it is. That's the Floating Seafood Restaurant.
Inside the Floating Seafood Restaurant.
Victoria Peak again...
It's pretty amazing to be on top of the mountain and looking down at the city.
The Hong Kong Botanical and Zoological Garden
And oh yeah.. Bamboos. Very enjoyable trip except the long plane ride! |
